A blog by the staff of the Thomas Ford Memorial Library
For fun at the Library, you can hardly beat last Friday’s Friday at the Ford. Our latest concert featured Barbara Silverman’s Silver Rose Trio out of Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music. With Barbara on guitar and singing lead, Colby Maddox on the mandolin, and Rick Veras playing fiddle, the trio performed a variety of blues, folk, and bluegrass pieces, as well as several of Barbara’s original songs. I particularly like the trio’s rendition of the Carter Family’s bluegrass classic “Are You Tired of Me, My Darlin’,” as well as Barbara’s “Venus and the Crescent Moon.” The audience even got to sing along with “Free Little Bird.” As you can see from the photo, Barbara also plays washboard, and she did, delighting the crowd. It was a lively, toe-tapping hour of music.
As always, the Western Springs Library Friends sponsored the Friday at the Ford program and served refreshments. The chocolate chip peanut butter bars were particularly delicious. The Friends will present Linda Smith performing her song cycle Artemisia on Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. There is no registration required. We hope you will attend.
