Thommy Ford Reads

A blog by the staff of the Thomas Ford Memorial Library

Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang by Chelsea Handler (817/HAN) (also available as a digital download through Media On Demand)

The outspoken host of E!’s Chelsea Lately has written another laugh out loud book of essays. Whether trying to convince her boyfriend that a dolphin would make a great house pet, getting high and “rescuing” her wayward brother after a family wedding reception at a karaoke bar, or trying to find some love and a swimming lesson for her chauffeur while on a tropical vacation, Handler’s talent for attracting the absurd makes for good eye-rolling entertainment. Though her best escapades may be vodka soaked practical jokes, Handler is not without a softer side, letting herself be strong-armed into adopting a dog, then falling hopelessly in love with it as it brings back tender memories of her childhood. I enjoyed reading Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang on my ereader after downloading it late one Saturday night from the library’s new Media On Demand service. It was the perfect indulgence at the end of a long day, and the brief essays let me read a bit, feel satisfied, and drift off to sleep, snickering to myself at these highly entertaining confections.
