At the beginning of the 21st century, chef Jacques Pepin starred on his own televised cooking show, which was called Jacques Pepin Celebrates. 26 shows were broadcast in the first season. This companion book to that series features recipes prepared on the show.

Is this cookbook easy to use?
No, many of the dishes in Jacques Pepin Celebrates require time and special efforts to make. As the title suggests, these are dishes to impress and delight guests for special occasions. Each recipe may take up several pages in the cookbook. That said, Pepin seems clear in his instructions and included instructive photographs. Some of the ingredients may be rather expensive, especially meats, fishes, and truffles.

What is special about this cookbook?
Pepin is one of the most celebrated chefs of his time, and his book has been made with great care. The photos of food presentation are stunning. (Need to know how to flute a mushroom? Pepin shows you how.) I also like the watercolor illustrations that decorate title and chapter pages. Even the simplest dishes look delicious in this book.
